Graham Jones
Some of you may have read on our Facebook site earlier this week a tribute to Graham Jones from Wales Rugby League, repeated here RIP Graham Jones - Wales Rugby League (WRL)
The tribute made mention to this former Wales rugby league international having played for Old Penarthians RFC before moving North to play 239 times for Salford Rugby League, scoring 119 tries. This led Club President, Tony Crimp, to review the club records to find that Graham did in fact play for the club, starting in season 1948/49 playng on four occasions.
Graham went on to play 18 times in season 1949/50 and 15 times in 1950/51. A report written at that time noted that Graham Jones was a 'club stalwart', when Les Horton was one of the prominent players. Graham appeared twice in season !953/54 and it is assumed that this is the season that he transferred to Penarth RFC before making his tranistion to rugby league after a Wales Rugby Union trial in the 1954/55 season.
Further research showed that the 'Club Hisory' section of this website also has a reference to Graham in an article published in "Rugger Sport" in December 1964 which read:
Salford Red Devils also posted a tribute to Graham on RIP Graham Jones - Wales Rugby League (WRL) and it is now Old Penarthians turn to belatedely acknowledge the part that Graham played in the history of our Club.
