Updated Listings of OPRFC Captains and Officials

As part of our Centenary celebrations the President has been reviewing paper documents from the Club’s archive and has now been able to update the ‘OPRFC Officials and Captains’ page of our website.  Previously the page only listed the Officials who have had held office and the 1st XV Captains who had served the Club in the period since 1947

The revised page now includes the names of the 2nd XV, 3rd XV and 4th XV captains who have served in this period together with the addition of the names of the captains of our newest sections of the club, the Womens XV and Youth XV.

The updated lists of OPRFC Officials and Captains can be found at https://oldpenarthians.rfc.wales/pages/e42602f1-7867-4fdd-9564-7ac108c3f511/oprfc-officials--captains

The Club would however like to appeal to members to ask if anyone has a Fixture Book for season 1973/74 that they are willing to donate to the Club.  It is the only book missing from our archive.  Members may also be able to help with the names of the captains in the lower teams from a few of the years without a listing.  Proof of the names offered would be appreciated.

The club hopes you find it interesting to note that the 2nd XV has played fixtures in every season since 1947 (with the exception of the Covid19 year) with Ian Buckley holding office the most, on eight occasions. The 3rd XV regularly played from the 1954/55 season until 2002/03 and the 4th XV had three distinct periods of operation, the last of which ended in the 2003/04 season.

Since season 2004-05 regular 3rd and 4th XV fixtures have not been scheduled and no captains for these sides have been elected. However, when players have been available teams have been raised to play opposition as either a 3rd XV or Vets XV.  In this period players to captain the teams have included Robert Crimp, Stuart Gunnarsson and Lloyd Davey.
