WRU Return to Play Protocol

Hi All,

I just wanted to give you a brief update on a WRU webinar meeting I attended this evening (15/06/20) about returning to play.

A WRU committee has now been put in place to update each club on a weekly basis with any changes and tonight was the first of such meetings.

Currently, we are very much in stage one of return to play. Stage one is classed as ‘Preparation stage’ and means that the current rules are still in place. This means still a 2m distance, only two households training maximum at one time and no groups are allowed to train as yet.

The WRU are very much guided by the Welsh government as to when they can move to stage two which would involve group training and I will be keeping you bang up to date on when that will happen.

One thing they made clear is that the playing season will not begin properly in September. There are three dates being discussed as potential start dates and they are October 2020, December 2020 or January 2021 and the season will be truncated to allow for this. They will confirm official dates as the government releases more information. Stage two (Group training) may well start before September but until we are sure, we need to stick to the current guidelines for your safety.

I know this is a difficult time for all of us, especially the players who will be missing playing with their friends but it’s also an exciting time to be part of Old Penarthians RFC. There are some big developments at the club happening behind the scenes so we can make it a really exciting place for you all to come back to and we are using this time to put some of these in place.

I am massively looking forward to seeing you all out there on the pitches again and I will now be constantly updating you as soon as I have some more news.

Stay safe,

Keri Lovell

Director of Rugby
