In early November Phoenix Touch Rugby played host at Old Penarthians to some members of the All Blacks touring team, including captain Sam Whitelock, Beauden Barrett and Samisoni Taukei’aho, who between them have won 266 caps
The event was organised by the touring team’s sponsors, Ineos, to show how the players can integrate into their communities when away from home and featured the players doing drills and passing routines with the Phoenix players
Recently Old Penarthians President, Tony Crimp, was interviewed by journalist Peter Jackson who was aware of the All Blacks appearance at the club and wanted to understand how these senior players interacted on the eve of their fixture with Wales.
Peter Jackson’s report on the event featuring Tony’s comments has now been published in the 4th December edition of The Rugby Paper, the text of which is shown below.
Samisoni Taukei’aho also presented a signed All Blacks shirt to Club Chairman, Stephen Clarke, and that shirt has now been framed and put on the wall of the Churchill Lounge in the clubhouse
