Following on from the successful debut of four Youth XV players into the senior team at Old Penarthians in their away victory at Cardiff Saracens on 7th March there was even more recognition of the progress that the club has made in recent years when three of their current Youth team were selected for the Wales U18 squad last weekend in their match against Italy.

The three players selected were Harvey Bryant, Sam Bryant and George Thomas, and it is a fantastic achievement for the players involved and a proud moment for the club and wider community. Harvey and Sam have been part of the Old Pens family for many years, representing the club throughout the junior and youth pathways whilst George joined the club this season from Porth and has quickly become a valued member of the youth squad.

The game against Italy, played at Ystrad Mynach, may have ended in a victory to the Italians by 19 points to 10 but all three players made contributions both in attack and defence with Harvey racing for a try only to be pulled back for a forward pass. The lads were supported throughout the day by a strong contingent of their team mates from the Youth XV as well as family and friends.

Their selection reflects the strength of the player pathway at Old Penarthians. From mini rugby through to youth level, it is built on the dedication of coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters who work tirelessly to create an environment where young players can develop both their rugby skills and their character.

Old Penarthians extend their sincere thanks to the families who have supported these young men throughout their journeys. The commitment, encouragement and countless hours given by parents and carers play a vital role in moments like this. The Club also recognises the tremendous contribution of the coaches who have worked with these players over the years. Their time, knowledge and belief in all the young players within the club help create the opportunities that lead to achievements like this.

Most importantly, congratulations go to Harvey, Sam and George. Their hard work, resilience and commitment have earned them this honour. To represent Wales at any level is a special achievement, and the whole Old Pens community is incredibly proud of them and wishes them every success as they continue on their rugby journeys.
