Coaching team complete

Old Penarthians RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Luke Ford as our new player / coach. The role for backs coach was only advertised two weeks ago and there were some incredibly strong applicants, which is a great sign for the club. After careful consideration from the board, coaching team and players, Luke has been offered and accepted the role to join us immediately. We want to thank every single person that applied and the incredibly high standard of coaching we saw.

Luke, who playes centre, joins us with a fantastic playing CV, having represented Cardiff RFC and Neath RFC at club level and Wales U20's at International level. His passion for the game and a desire to play shone through and he has stated his ambitions to play for Old Pens this season to help guide the players on and off the pitch. Luke has spent some time already meeting the players at training sessions and has been met with a hugely positive response by them all. His natural leadership skills are easily noticed and it's no wonder that he was Cardiff RFC captain at one point.

The coaching team has been the number one priority for Director of Rugby, Keri Lovell, who was keen to bring in a younger team with a game led, development and player focused outlook. Both Jake and Luke share a similar coaching philosophy, one that we share as a club from mini's to adults and we are very excited about the future now we have them both on board.

The prospect of having two ex-Premiership players walking out in Old Pens colours next season is one that we hope will show the ambition of the club going forward. Behind the scenes we we are working incredibly hard to deliver a fantastic experience for the Penarth community and there will be lots of exciting announcements coming in the future. We look forward to seeing you all soon now that the club is open again and hope you give a huge Old Pens welcome to our new coach, Luke Ford.
