Old Penarthians are pleased to advise you that the next phase of our refurbishment plans for the clubhouse are due to commence on Tuesday 23rd May 2017. 

Over the last few months your committees have been in discussions with the contractor who completed the other phases of the club redevelopment to finalise a scheme that will continue the modernisation to the high standards that have already been established.

At the same time, we have managed to attract some funding from a third-party organisation and we await the outcome of a second grant application.  Most of the finance is however from club funds which have been generated from increased trade and patronage, from you the members, since the other areas of the clubhouse have been improved. 

Your committees see the reinvestment of these funds back into the fabric of the building to be the best way to ensure the Club continues to move forward for the next generation

The refurbishment work that is about to commence will concentrate in the bar area of the clubhouse and will include the following:

Replacement of the windows and doors adjacent to the patio with bi-folding doors
Lifting the ceiling in the vicinity of the access to the patio to a height consistent with the rest of the room
External roof improvements over this same area.
Replacement of the existing suspended ceiling in the bar area and the corridor to the toilet area with the inclusion of new lighting arrangements 
Removal of the ‘half wall’ between the bar area and the skittle alley.
Provision of new wood-effect porcelain tile flooring.
Provision of a new entry door from the lobby area.
Redecoration of walls and woodwork

If sufficient funds are available the ceiling of the skittle alley will be replaced, the lighting improved and new flooring laid around the alley.

Schematic drawings of the development are attached or they can be viewed in more detail on the noticeboards in the club

To complete all these works the bar area will be closed for up to eight weeks immediately after the Sevens Tournament.  The rest of the club including the servery, the lounge, toilets and kitchen will however remain.  It is likely that the patio area will be unavailable as this will be a main area for the contractors’ entry and exit to the building.

We trust that you will continue to support the Club during this refurbishment period and we will resume ‘normal service’ as soon as possible albeit in improved, modernised surroundings.
