Old Penarthians Girls minis make touring history

OLD Penarthians Girls under 11s and under nines made local rugby history being the first all-Girls Mini's Teams to tour across the bridge, heading to Wimbledon to play in the Old Rutlishians Rugby Club tag festival.

With 10 all girls’ teams and a round robin format the four Old Pens girls teams stepped off the bus to a superb welcome from the Old Ruts Rugby Club and straight into action.

Old Pens under 11 Tigers Team featured superb pace with Mia Hall’s relentless strike running linking with Alexa Tyso and Olivia Bevington to scorch in out wide time and time again. Millie Barters excellent lines and offloads were rewarded by Hannah Jones relentless hard work in what was a superb team performance.

Old Pens under 11 Eagles festival style was a perfect mix of power and pace with Lily Morse direct lines and superbly weighted passes making room for speedsters Magi Hall and Flo Robinson to blast in out wide for many electric tries. Lucy Lewis and Millie Large all round work was outstanding turning defence into attack and building a great platform for rapid rugby all day.

Old Pens under 11s Sharks defence was second to none as they relentlessly turned ball over that Charlotte Palmer, Alana Evans and Darcy Thomas rapidly turned into attack with superb line breaks amazingly supported by Seren Smith and Sophie Edwards to fly in from deep for several champagne tries, and the best defensive record of the tournament.

The Under nines Dragons enthusiasm and passion was evident from the off as they tore straight into games with superb tagging and passing from Sophia Morse. Amy Lewis covered every blade of grass linking up superbly with Evie Evans who used her pace to rack up the try count. Elmari Venters clever running left defenders for dead with Flossy Thomas always well placed with great pace to finish out wide.

To thank the Old Ruts for being such amazing hosts Sara Hall led the girls with several rousing renditions of famous Welsh Rugby Hymns not leaving a dry eye in the house.
